MY JOURNEY WITH DATA VISUALIZATION

When I first started my MBA, I didn’t expect to be working with data visualization tools like Power BI and Tableau. With a background in English literature, my experience had always been rooted in analyzing stories, exploring themes, and understanding character motivations—numbers were rarely part of my world. But as I began my management studies, I quickly realized how essential data-driven decision-making is in the business world. Data visualization became my bridge between storytelling and strategic insights, transforming what initially felt daunting into an exciting new skill.

My journey with Power BI and Tableau began in my fourth semester when I chose this paper as my elective. At first, I found the tools overwhelming. Rows of data, complex functions, and unfamiliar terms felt far removed from the pages of novels I was used to. But I soon discovered that creating visualizations is a lot like crafting a story. Just as in literature, where we reveal information at just the right moment to keep the reader engaged, data visualization involves choosing what to show and when, creating a clear, compelling narrative for viewers.

Looking back, my journey with data visualization has been transformative. I’m proud of how I’ve learned to interpret and communicate insights from data, seeing it not as a barrier but as another form of storytelling. Now, as I continue my career, I’m excited to apply these skills in real-world scenarios, using data to make informed decisions and to create visuals that resonate with my audience. Data visualization has become a new language for me, one that connects my love for storytelling with the demands of the business world.
